About Us
Music at Waverly Belmont Elementary
The aims of the music program at our school will remain similar to those established by Alice Walle, the school's previous music teacher, who has now become the MNPS district elementary music coach.Â
The goal of the music program at Waverly Belmont is to help students develop music appreciation, skills, and the mental habits of self-reflection, creativity, critical thinking, intrinsic motivation and individuality. In class, we will sing, play instruments, move a lot, improvise, read and compose, and analyze music from different cultures and genres. Students will learn to play percussion instruments, piano keyboard, recorder, ukulele, and more. We will meet and work with professional musicians. We will integrate technology. And of course, we will perform.
Christopher Blackmon
I have been teaching music in MNPS for 14 years. I worked with young people as choir director, playwright, ministry director and mentor for many years before that. I've always seen music, and the other arts, as a vehicle to communicate values that matter, and to inspire hope.
My desire is to bring our Waverly Belmont Community together to celebrate the potential of our students in the rich diversity of their self-expression.
